Michaeleans join world peace day

FLIGHT OF HOPE. SMCL Administrators headed by Dr. Lourdes A. Sese (front row, third from left), together with officers of Parent-Partners Council, Zonta Club of Laguna members, and students released white balloons that symbolized the school’s support on UN’s advovacy to fight violence on World Peace Day.

Peace may not be the absence of war, but also the presence of noise.

To realize the United Nations’ goal of global ceasefire and non-violence, peacemakers assembled at the quadrangle Sept. 19 to make noise for an advanced observance of International Peace Day (Sept. 21).

Michaeleans joined the campaign which started at 4:00 P.M.  with a rendition of the song “Liwanag sa Dilim” from SMCL High School.

Ten big bells inspired by the UN Peace Bell started the countdown to the 60-second noise barrage.
Officers of Parent-Partner Council, College Student Council, School Student Councils, Z Club, Golden Z Club, and Zonta Club of Laguna, and SMCL administrators namely Mrs. Julieta L. Quintao (SMCL Grade School Principal), Mrs. Carmelita C. Espino (SMCL High School Principal), Dr. Rosalina M. De Guzman (Dean, School of Education and Liberal Arts), Dr. Victor C. Manabat (Dean, School of Business Administration), Prof. Ma. Regina C. Manabat (Dean, School of Nursing), Mrs. Linda D. Pio (Director, Center for Hospitality and Institution Management Education), and Mr. Reynante M. Francia (Director, Information Technology Office) joined the salvo.

Following the lead of Dr. Lourdes A. Sese (College President), Michaeleans who brought their own bells, mobile phones, MP3 players, metal lids, and tambourines, made noise for one minute.

After the clamor, the whole assembly fell silent for 60 seconds to internalize the objective of the advocacy.

Finally, selected students presented their reflections and released white balloons with prayers and messages for peace. (Lyndie Laurie and Carlo Mari Carrasco)
