Golden Z cops int’l award

International winner for five years!

Congratulations are due to Golden Z Club of Saint Michael’s College of Laguna (SMCL) for bagging for the fifth time, Emma L. Conlon Award for Service for year 2007-2008.

Zonta International, a service-oriented international organization of female professionals devoted to the advancement of the status of women, conferred US$ 500 to the club.
SMCL’s entry enumerated the service-projects that bested 17 entries from four countries. Members of the all-girls club had been involved in UNIFEM’s Women’s Rights Awareness Campaign, Mentoring, Entrepreneurship Program, Food Always in the Home (FAITH), Maternity Kit, Theater on Wheels, Women and Migration seminar, and Gawad Kalinga Build.

Their regular programs are Family Literacy Program, Livelihood Program and Health and Sanitation Programs that have been continuously networking with government and non-governmental organizations.

New set of officers

On July 21, Golden Z officers were elected for 2008-2009 to continuously promote community service and social awareness.

Newly-elected officers were president Crissa Ibarra (BSEd-IV), vice presidents Relisa Marasigan (BSEd III) and Alison Grace Mancia (BSHM III), secretary Ellaine Hernandez (AB III), treasurer Marlyn Teodoro (BSEd IV), and board members representing each school: Iona Mae Zaguirre (BSBA IV), Analyn Era (BSN III), Rebecca Bigornia (BSHM III), Gabrielle Forteza (ACT II), and Rowielyn de Manzana (BSEd IV).

For their first project, the members and officers gathered for the third year launch of “Change for the Better,” a fundraiser for Gawad Kalinga. (Relisa Marasigan)
